It doesn't create RCD, that prompt is a left-over which should be removed from the tool completely.

FWIW you can’t turn a.regular. hard drive to GPT unless the drive is empty. Normally you can't do it, that's right. But GPT Loader can - it converts non-empty disk into GPT without data loss.

Still guys recommending to backup no matter what before you try anything new are quite right - backup is a must have even if one uses 100% tested and reliable software, because if something goes wrong and he doesn't have backup he would have nobody to blame but himself:-). The setup was the following: Windows XP SP3 32-bits (this way I ensured no native support for GPT disks) in a virtual machine with 512 MB of RAM. A primary hard drive of 20GB where the OS was installed and a secondary hard drive of 2TB (virtualization layer top), with a GUID partition table and a 2TB NTFS partition. The installation was pleasant, the key was also delivered to my email almost instantly.

The software included a partition manager too, it's not only the GPT access driver. After the installation I shut down the VM and 'plugged in' the 2TB hard drive. When already booted I could access the NTFS partition inside of if perfectly, with read & write access to it. The Windows disk manager program was able to handle the disk, for example to format the partition, without any problem. The partition manager provided with the software was able to detect and deal with GPT disks as well. Was little time testing it but I could find no errors, nor data loss or corruption. In my opinion it's a useful program for cases I mentioned before, there're lots of companies still running Windows XP although I've not found many using GPT disks.

I too have had problems with Paragon Backup and Recovery 10 and 9. Similar problems where if the machine fails for any reason during restore, the system is trashed to the point where even the BOOT CD no longer works. It was necessary to remove the drive and reinstall using a second computer with the drive connected externally. This has happened several times, not just once.

In backup/restore operations the system must be absolutely fail-safe. Paragon please listen to this feedback, you are losing your good name. I know it's free, but when fiddling with the hard drive it HAS to be safe.

There are other problems also, with failure to include archives in the database during manual inclusion, tiny dialogs where archive names/comments cannot be read properly, failure to cope with hardware errors and language. Constructive feedback intended here! Sorry guys, this is slightly off-topic, but important. I too have had problems with Paragon Backup and Recovery 10 and 9. #18 @2&4: this is silly. Just because a program doesn't works on some systems you trash the company. I have succesfully used paragon and will continue to do so in the future, it's just that.

I know what i am doing. You should mess with software that may affect your system if you don't know how to use it. I think Paragon and Acronis are the best in harddisk management nowdays. Now, on with the program: it's a great idea, but not many are able to test it.

Maybe Paragon should take us a little slower as not so many have 3+ TB hdds. Plus, strange terms of use. @2&4: this is silly. #17 Have had mixed results with Paragon software - mostly good.! Ran into trouble with 'crosslinked files', was able to partition a drive and move a system drive on one dual boot machine, Vista x64 and W7 x64, could not do this with Easeus but Paragon had success.

On another machine Xp sp3 x32 and W7 x64, not so good, I understand this is not such a good idea. But they were running happily for about a year, ran out of room, added a new data drive and decided to free up some working room on the two system drives (one HDD, 2 partitions) tryed to resize the W7 partition and machine rebooted about half way through, the files were so 'scrambled eggs' could not recover them with two different data recover programs. Partitioned the Xp and reinstalled the W7, boohoo! Backup or copy over to another location before any such operation!!!!! Next the alignment tools do a world of good to HDD once they are successful. Have used on 4 different machines 28 partins total.

2 units complete success. Another again lost one system out of the two had to recover/reinstall. The last one an HP system Vista x64 refuses to align some multiple errors, tryed moving to another disk, still wont align but the area it came from reformats and aligned ok.

Then recover partition stops working, didnt know this at the time. And tryed to align a large 2TB dta drive, didnt think backup was necessary after mostly success up to now, so of course the same reboot in the middle of the operation. Was able to recover very few files, again then files and programs recovered were the but not very useable, even the videos played but jumped from one show to another and back, very strange indeed. Morale of story.

All HDD functions /align /partion/move works best on empty or near empty disk space/ BOB. Have had mixed results with Paragon software - mostly good.! I clicked ok, and that was the end of my operating system. I couldn’t even boot into safe mode, or last known configuration. I had a blank screen and blinking cursor.' Obviously I can't add anything that would help as you've reinstalled Windows etc., but in case anyone else gets into a similar situation. System Backup adds a boot loader - it's what the PC/laptop bios reads to determine what files to boot & run, & in this case it's added before the normal Windows' boot loader so you can restore a backup using that F1 key. It seems clear something didn't work as intended. The fix would be to either restore that portion of the hard drive so you again just had the Windows boot loader, or to add/install another boot loader that hopefully would work with Windows as installed.

If something like that happens & you have on-line access (using another system) you'll find all sorts of solutions. One way to put things back is to restore a backup, probably in this case just the 1st hard disk track, which Paragon's other backup apps let you backup separately from the full disk/partition. Since this backup file is pretty small, just a couple of MB if that, it's quick & easy to try. It also rarely changes, so creating one of those backups to a bootable CD can well be worth the effort. Microsoft also includes some fixes on it's Windows install discs - you can boot from the disc, go into Recovery Console, & run Fixboot for example, or in more drastic cases, you can do a Repair Install, which tries to re-install Windows while keeping all your updates, software, & customizations intact. #2: 'A previous Paragon giveaway, Paragon System Backup 2010, trashed my Windows XP SP3 system.

#15 Before using any tool like this you should make an image backup in case anything goes wrong. Then in a worst case scenario you just spend a little while to restore a system instead of a complete reinstall. I use Acronis for this purpose but Paragon has given away software here that can do the same. Remember it is always better to be safe than sorry. BTW, in reading the description this does not seem to mess with the drive Windows is installed on but is rather for use with drives hooked up as secondary storage.

If you have Windows vista or above you probably already have support for 3TB+ drives. Before using any tool like this you should make an image backup in case anything goes wrong.

You also can't boot XP to a GPT drive - the Paragon GPT loader will only let XP access it, which it can't do by default.

You also can't use it on external/removable drives. That's NOT to say don't download or try the GPT Loader - Please do if you can - but I hope that might save some folks a bit of time if like me they thought of checking it out, only to find out later it would be impractical because they don't have an internal disk that's either clear or can easily be cleared. Otherwise GPT is superior, & Microsoft.com has some good info you'll find using Google/Bing. FWIW you can't turn a.regular. hard drive to GPT unless the drive is empty. Thankfully I had used paragon backup and recovery tool to produce complete albeit slightly out of date images of the drive I was moving to the new 640G 2.5' drive on a seperate new 640G 2.5' drive so not everything was lost, just several hours of time. Conversly I did not throw the baby out with the bath water, and sucessfully used paragon P2P and recovery software, this time in conjunction with the acronis alignment tool to get everything working as it should. #4 neo,#7 Lee, Paragon Alignment Tool trashed one of my operating systems too!

#6 For me a critical question not asked is how mature is this GPT driver? Is it Alpha release, beta relese candidate, closed beta, public beta, release candidate? Us early adopters of new technologies still running XP are a fickle bunch and do need to know how unstable to expect this to be. Like should we use this on GPT drives with valuable data already on it placed there by some other OS or best start from scratch on a new bare drive and take baby steps writing and verifying everything written until the driver proves itself stable?

Under no circumstances would I ever install Paragon software again. A previous Paragon giveaway, Paragon System Backup 2010, trashed my Windows XP SP3 system. After making a systems snapshot it said it needed to restart the system to complete the process. I clicked ok, and that was the end of my operating system. I couldn’t even boot into safe mode, or last known configuration.

I had a blank screen and blinking cursor. The F1 setup came up, but it reported “no HDD”. I had to rebuild the machine and then reinstall Windows from scratch. What’s more, another user called goodtogo reported exactly the same problem with a subsequent Paragon giveaway. I shall wait to see with interest whether this message gets published.
